Support Your Local Equestrian

At the beginning of October, Sport & Recreation Services invited nominations to their 2017 CBR Sports Awards. The system is now entirely computerised and there is no separate nomination and voting process. Anyone can vote for anyone else to be People’s Sporting Champion. The challenge is to get as many people as possible to send in a vote for your favourite candidate. ACTEA has become aware that Margaret Palazzo has been nominated as an equestrian candidate in this selection process. Margaret has been involved in various ways with a number of different ACTEA affiliates over the years as reflected in her nomination.

Margaret Palazzo is a quiet young rider from a non-horsey family, who started relatively late, joining Murrumbateman Pony Club at 10 years of age or later, and who, by dint of talent, tenacity and sheer hard work, has been competing at 2* level in eventing for the last year or so. Margaret has worked for three professionals (3 years with Ben Netterfield and a year each with
Natalie Blundell and Sam Lyle in that order). Margaret coached voluntarily at Murrumbateman Pony Club while working for Ben and Nat, qualified as an EA coach, and has coached at Murrumbateman Adult Riding Club and Gooromon Park riding school besides volunteering at equestrian events. Now 23, Margaret is studying medicine at the ANU, and works part time coaching, riding for other people and waitressing to pay for horse-related and study expenses. She uses her time very efficiently.

If you want to support Margaret’s nomination all you have to do is go to http://cbrsportawards.com.au/peoples-sporting-champion/ and click on the Vote Now button. You will be asked to provide some words in favour of Margaret’s nomination and you are free to borrow from those above. If you want to encourage others to vote for Margaret you can post this information on your Facebook Page or that of your club.

Even if Margaret doesn’t win this is a great opportunity to help raise awareness about the local equestrian community.

If you know of others who have been nominated let ACTEA know on its info@actea.asn.au address and we will post their names and info on the ACTEA website.

Nominations/voting close on 17 November.
