Ridden Access to Equestrian Park – Traffic Management Plan

It pays to persevere. Huon (with a little bit of pressure) has come to the party with a proposal to maintain equestrian access to the Park.

On Monday 21 August the Cotter Road traffic will switch from the old road onto the new road. Huon will then start demolishing the old bridge over Yarralumla Creek. This should take 3 weeks. As that happens the following arrangement will be put in place.

On Saturday afternoon and Sunday Huon will not be working and the underpass will be kept free of workers and demolition debris so horses can pass safely too and from the Park. See this plan.

Starting on Monday 21 August between 7:30 and 4:30 on week days and until 13:00 on Saturday horses will be able to cross the Cotter Road from Curtin directly into the Equestrian Park driveway. Huon will have 3 traffic controllers placed on site to stop traffic and get horses safely across the road. One will be stationed far enough west of the driveway to provide a wide space in which horses can travel. One will be in the westbound lane near the entrance and the third will be in the entrance itself. Just signal the lollypop men for help to cross. See this detailed plan

There will also be cyclists using this crossing. They will come along the walkway beside the new noise wall to the EP driveway, cross all 4 lanes of the Cotter Road and pick up the cycle path on the edge of the Cotter Road. They will also be using the orange bridge that we never got to use to get across the Creek!

The gate on the right of the entrance drive will be once again opened so horses can get off the driveway as soon as possible. There will be a mounting block inside the gate and another one among the trees across the road.

The traffic management plan includes lots of signage but there will be a couple of places where horses and bikes will be in close proximity. Best to let the bikes go ahead out of your way.
