Inquiry into Value of Canberra’s Urban Bushland

The ACT Legislative Assembly Standing Committee on Environment and Transport and City Services has invited submissions to its inquiry into the value of the natural environment to an urbanising Canberra.

They will be inquiring into the level of public support for and satisfaction with the amount and quality of nature and natural environment areas in Canberra, particularly in urban areas. They are interested in views on the types of natural areas within Canberra e.g. urban open spaces or bushland reserves and the existing or potential benefits and challenges they bring to Canberra’s social amenity. The Standing Committee report will also consider issues relating to the management of the interface between the natural environment and urban areas. The Committee intends reporting to the Assembly on the matter by the end of 2018. Written submissions however, need to be lodged with the Committee Secretary by close of business on Friday, 8 June 2018.

ACTEA will be making a submission about the value of public open space and reserves to the local equestrian community. We are looking for any comments or suggestions from horse riders about how they feel about changes in the environment, things which are important to their enjoyment of riding, worries they have about loss of amenity etc. Please send suggestions or comments to info@actea.asn.au by 25 May.
