Bike Race on the Cotter Road This Weekend

The annual Fitz’s Challenge is on the weekend – Sunday 29 October. It primarily happens out in the Brindabellas however it will start and finish through the front gate of Stromlo Forest Park.

All races will head off on Uriarra Road and return on the Cotter Road and Swallowtail Road. The Cotter Road will not be closed for the event and the organisers, Pedal Power, claim that cyclists have to stick to the road rules which means they should only be travelling in the east bound carriage way.

The earliest starters will be 7am. The first riders back will be those on the shortest loop around 8am. The bulk of all riders will be finished by 3pm. Because some of these cyclists will have done 200km by the time they hit the Cotter Road they will fairly spread out and not very fast by 3pm.

However, the speed limit on the Cotter Road will be reduced to 60km for the duration of the race and there will be motorcycle police patrolling the route.

Pedal Power have said they will let course officials know there will be people turning in and out of agistment driveways. They seemed very unclear about whether they had advised these agistment centres about the race.
