ANZAC Day is coming up and on Friday 21 April there will be a joint Australian and New Zealand commemoration of the Desert Mounted Corps at the Australian War Memorial. The Australian Light Horse figured in the Corps which saw service in Egypt, Palestine and Syria during World War One.
Four riders from the New Zealand Mounted Rifles Charitable Trust, troopers from the 7th Light Horse Bemboka Troop and riders from the Snowy Mountains’ Horse Riders’ Association will form up on the Parade Ground of the Australian War Memorial at 10.30 AM for a photo opportunity.
The contingent will then move to the Desert Mounted Corps Memorial on ANZAC Parade for a brief service and wreath laying commencing at 11.00AM.
The organisers have invited members of ACTEA Affiliates to the event. The NZ contingent and the Bemboka Light Horse are both re-enactment troops so the ceremony may be of interest to those with Light Horse members in their family background or just interested in the history of horses in war.
