Final Stromlo Forest Park Master Plan Released

The ACT Government has released the final master plan for Stromlo Forest Park. During the December 2015 to February 2016 consultation period, seven written submissions and 744 online responses were received. ACTEA lodged a detailed submission on the impact of overdevelopment of the Park on traditional equestrian use.

While mostly not currently funded, the final master plan identifies a range of new developments at the Park, including tourist accommodation, an enclosed oval, district playing fields, a 12 km road cycling circuit, an extension to the criterium track, along with a range of other smaller upgrades. As part of the 2016-17 ACT Budget, the ACT Government has committed $33 million for the first significant project, a new swimming pool.

The ACT Government claims the final master plan balances a range of new sport and recreation opportunities at the Park, while still being considerate of traditional user groups and that cycling, equestrian, running and walking will continue to be key activities within Stromlo Forest Park
